Until recently, in the minds of Ukrainians, there was a stereotype that the best windows are only of German origin. This myth is rooted in the post-deficit 90-ies, when all the exotic imported from abroad was considered an indisputable standard of quality. This also happened with the first metal-plastic windows in the former Soviet Union, which at first were really brought from Germany. The truth is that they were brought for the crazy money, and more often as a luxury item.
In those same 90s in Ukraine there began to appear in mass the production plants that produce translucent structures and sell them under the guise of German. Such a tactical move is fully justified, because the brand “German windows” has long been rooted in the consciousness of our fellow citizens. Enticing marketers only had to build an advertising campaign correctly.
Thus, today in the Ukrainian window market the situation is as follows: the buyer reacts instantly to the label “German product”, although there are not really German windows in Ukraine! (We will not take into account the exclusive expensive designs, which are brought at order.) All windows sold in Ukraine under the guise of German are made in Ukraine and officially are a Ukrainian product. Even if the profile from which these windows are made is of foreign origin (usually these are different countries of Europe and Asia). In other words, “German window quality” is nothing more than a marketing move that pushes trustful Ukrainians to the purchase of specific brands.

Windows in rooms located on the first or last floors of buildings necessarily require special anti-break accessories. It differs from the usual accessories, primarily because the shuttering mechanisms – studs – have a non-cylindrical, but mushroom-shaped shape. Due to this it is practically impossible to break off the sash.
Another kind of anti-break accessories are special magnetic sensors – contactors, which remotely inform the host about the current state of the window. In other words, when attempting an unauthorized intrusion through the window, the sensors operate as an alarm, about which the owner of the room instantly finds out.
It is useful to know that anti-break fittings can be inserted not only on a new one, but also on an already installed window, replacing or complementing the old one with anti-break system.

Everything depends on the size of the room and the number of people in the room. The minimum time of ventilation, which provides the permissible level of air circulation for normal human health, – several times a day for 5-15 minutes, depending on the season. If the window is equipped with special slit ventilation devices (discrete opening mechanism), in this case it can be permanently in micro-ventilation mode for fresh air access to the room.
Only a craftsman can determine the true reason for drafts. Therefore, it is necessary to contact the company that manufactured and installed windows.
So, what could be the reasons for drafts from metal-plastic windows? In most cases, this is an incorrectly adjusted fitting, which facilitates to depressurize the window structure. If you have settled in an apartment with already installed windows, check that the window is not in use in the winter weathering mode (these custom fittings could be installed on request of the customer).
Sometimes, in the absence of proper care, there are problems with a rubber sealant, which, losing elasticity, fades and breaks out. Replacing a seal in a latch is usually not a problem.
In addition, incorrect installation may also be the cause of the draft. In this case, only reinstalling windows can save the situation. In any case, it is not necessary to engage in independent activities, because only a craftsman can help with determination of the causes of the problem and its solution.
The windows themselves can not create a frowziness: the metal-plastic window either is in a hermetically sealed condition, or allows air to penetrate into the room, being in ventilation mode or being completely open. And the so-called myth about the frowziness is due to the fact that everyone is accustomed to the non-tightness of the old window frames that let air through, regardless of whether we want it or not, thereby allowing the windows to “breathe”. And in winter, by the way, also, that previously caused regular seasonal sticking of windows with a paper tape.
Tightness – one of the distinguishing features of modern metal-plastic windows. The tightness provides a comfortable climate in the house due to the lack of blowing, drafts, and freezing.
Due to the fact that the plastic windows prevent the spontaneous flow of air into the room, it is necessary to regularly carry out ventilation (several times a day for 15 minutes is quite enough). Another way is to install fittings for micro-ventilation. In this case, even in the cold season, it will be possible to leave the window open for several millimeters, which will allow fresh air to enter the room without risking of making it cold.
The number of chambers in the window profile affects such indicators as thermal protection, strength and sound insulation.
4 or 5 tight air chambers minimize heat transfer inside the profile, which does not allow air temperature outside the building to affect the microclimate in the room. In other words, regardless of weather conditions, windows with a multi-chamber profile will not let cold to your home in the winter and in the summer heat.
As for strength, the presence of 4 or 5 chambers in the profile creates additional resistance to various types of mechanical loads: wind, operational or when attempting unauthorized intrusion. VIKNALAND profile systems, for example, withstand the tensile pressure up to 550 kg (door leaf up to 700) on a standard corner sample. I.e. breaking a window frame with a multi-chamber profile is extremely difficult.
In addition, the multi-chamber profile affects the level of sound insulation. With the correct selection of profile system and insulated glazing unit, noise from the outside can be reduced to 40-45 dB in the room (slight rustling of leaves), even if you live in a rather noisy place.
By the way, the traditional three-chamber profile does not correspond to DSTU and DBN, because its strength and thermal insulation characteristics are less than necessary. Therefore, we do not recommend risking and immediately stop choosing exactly those windows that meet the standards of thermal preservation and have the necessary certificates of conformity.
The myth that windows plastic is harmful to health originated, presumably, because of the “suspicious” name of its main component – polyvinyl chloride (PVC). In addition, in the production process, lead is added to the plastic, which often alarms and confuses the consumer. Therefore, it is important to understand some basic things about modern PVC products.
PVC is absolutely safe for a person due to its unique properties (despite the fact that it is a product of complex chemical synthesis). Polyvinyl chloride is today one of the most popular materials. Looking around you will notice that a significant part of your daily use items is partially or fully made of PVC: an electric kettle, linoleum, furniture, washable wallpaper, clothes and accessories from the leatherette and even medical gloves.
As for lead, numerous studies prove that it does not pose any threat in the finished product. Manufacturers of PVC products give such an exemplary example: almost every home has crystalline, and this is nothing more than glass with lead, and in much more extent than PVC-plastic. Nevertheless, nobody thinks crystalline is dangerous to health.
Therefore, it should be understood that modern technologies do not stand on a place and the PVC profile for the production of windows and doors is also constantly being improved. As for the VIKNALAND profile, it has undergone multiple studies and has been certified, which in turn proves its compliance with established medical safety criteria. In other words, VIKNALAND profile is absolutely harmless to human health.
At your request, our specialists will manufacture a VIKNALAND window with any number of glasses – from a monolith (thickness 5-6 mm) to a three-chamber insulated glazing unit. VIKNALAND profile assumes the possibility of installing a insulated glazing unit with a total thickness of up to 40 mm, which allows to solve the problem of sufficient noise reduction and necessary thermal insulation in accordance with the requirements of DSTU and DBN.
Often, the consumer is offered two variants of insulated glazing units: one-chamber with a total thickness of 24 mm and two-chamber with a thickness of 32 mm. One-chamber insulated glazing unit (two glasses) with a 4 mm thick glass can not provide the required soundproofing, and even with the use of energy-saving glass will not provide sufficient thermal protection. Therefore, it is not recommended to install one-chamber insulated glazing unit in residential areas.
Two-chamber insulated glazing units (three glasses) with a glass of 4 mm each provides the sound insulation required for residential premises, and the thermal characteristics of a two-chamber insulated glazing unit of a thickness of at least 32 mm with two energy-saving glasses provide thermal insulation, the requirements of which are described in Amendments No. 1 in DBN B.2.6 – 31:2006 “Thermal insulation of buildings”. These are these insulated glazing units that we recommend to use in VIKNALAND windows.
For the most comfortable operation of metal-plastic windows, there is an accessory that allows ventilation of the premises in different modes, depending on the season and climatic conditions.
Traditional hinged, hanging or swing-out fittings allow the chassis to deflect for a ventilation mode at a certain position of the handle (usually a maximum clearance of 13 cm can be adjusted depending on the required angle).
Another mechanism – the limiter – is a kind of “comb”, through which the open sash can be locked in any position: both in the revolving and in the folding.
In order not to cool the room in the winter, install a special fitting system “winter-summer”. Thanks to it, the angle of the deflection of the sash in the cold season can be reduced to 4 mm.
When installing the sloping windows, the sash can be opened in an additional way – in parallel to the frame, which ensures safe micro-ventilation of the room. With the specified opening mode, a 5-millimeter gap is created which does not reduce the anti-break characteristics of the window. I.e. even going on vacation, you will be able to leave the sash in a micro-ventilation mode, not being afraid of unauthorized intrusion into your home.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) – a stable compound, harmless to human health. The basis of PVC – kitchen salt (sodium chloride) and gaseous ethylene, which is obtained by cracking oil and gas. As a result of a number of chemical reactions polyvinyl chloride is formed – a powder of white color.
To date, PVC is one of the most common materials for the manufacture of furniture, motor vehicles, household appliances (utensils, electric kettles, coffee machines, etc.), electrical engineering, packaging materials, as well as in medicine, construction and other spheres.
Thanks to the modern technology of PVC production, it has unique properties that are best suited for the production of window profiles. They can safely include the form resistance, color stability, durability, resistance to aggressive media, rigidity, heat resistance (in the range of operating temperatures).
The special advantage of PVC-profile structures is that, unlike wooden ones, they do not require special care and retain perfect appearance during long years of service.
It is important to understand that many factors affect the temperature climate in an apartment: the materials from which walls are made, ventilation, heating, the location of the building, its surface, convection, etc.
There is no single theoretical calculation of temperature changes in an apartment after the installation of new metal-plastic windows. But, based on experience, we can talk about an increase in the average temperature in the room at 5-7°C with the invariability of other parameters (heating, ventilation, etc.).
But pay attention to the fact that the installation of metal-plastic windows only contributes to reducing the loss of heat, but not its “production”. I.e. it will not be hot on a cold balcony after the glazing, unless a source of heat appears – air conditioner, heater, etc.
The level of noise insulation provided by the metal-plastic windows depends on the characteristics of both the window profile and the insulated glazing unit: the tightness of the insulated glazing unit and the installed window as a whole, the multi-chamber feature of profile and the peculiarities of the sealers.
After a preliminary estimate of the noise level outside the window, a professional gauge will be able to select the desired glazing option. This can reduce the noise even from the busiest city main road to 40-45 dB (rustling of leaves in light wind).
The base of metal-plastic windows – the profile – is made of a special fire-resistant material of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The PVC made of a profile includes special additives (for example, chlorine), they prevent the possibility of ignition of plastic during the fire in the room (the index of flame propagation for PVC windows is zero).
In other words, the window plastic will not support the burning process, while the wooden window will flash instantly, like a match. If during the fire the room temperature jumps to 200°C, the window plastic can only melt, but no more. In addition, many window makers install insulated glazing units with good insulation properties, so they do not burst from heat, which in turn prevents the flow of oxygen into the room.
