These are integral elements of the window design, which make its operation really convenient, and the appearance perfect. We have everything necessary from sill to mosquito nets. New handles and rubber pads will enhance the comfort level.

Virtually no window can do without a window sill. This is an integral part of the window structure, which makes its operation really convenient, and the appearance complete and aesthetic. In addition, high-quality windowsill has thermal protection properties: it keeps the flow of warm air from the heating devices, forming a warm air layer near the window and the area of the wall adjacent to it.

The range of window sills offered by the market at the moment is enormous: window sills made of wood, chipboard, PVC, laminated MDF-plates, natural and artificial stone, metallized alloys, composite materials. Various functional and qualitative characteristics, wide color gamma, as well as flexible price scale make it possible to pick up exactly the window sill, which is perfectly suited to each window and satisfies all inquiries of the consumer.

Consequently, the most demanded, qualitative and practical variants of window sills – from a tree, chipboard and MDF, PVC.

Wooden window sills

Wooden window sills are made from solid wood (pine, oak, beech, ash and other breeds), from wooden planks glued along the width or – the most budget option – linings from thin veneers of natural wood to concrete base.

Advantages: naturalness, environmental friendliness, presentable appearance.

Disadvantages: need careful care, sensitive to moisture, prone to swelling, deformation, cracking, need periodic tinting or varnishing. The window sills of a solid wood have a fairly high price.

Window sills from chipboard and MDF

Made from pressed wood-shaving materials and covered with a thin film of laminate on top, which protects the windowsill from soaking, fading and mechanical damage. Laminating film can be of different colors and textures: woodgrain, stone style, etc.

Advantages: decorative, unpretentious in care, durability, heat resistance, resistance to sunlight, insensitivity to rot and change in size, democratic price.

Disadvantages: fear of prolonged exposure to moisture, the greater the water (although the surface is protected by a film, the moisture can fall into the deep layers from the ends of the window sill). In case of damage the window sill is also beginning to absorb moisture, and repair is quite problematic.

PVC sills

Sill made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most versatile, practical and durable solution. Made from the same material as PVC profiles, these windows have all the qualities inherent in profile systems: strength, moisture resistance, resistance to ultraviolet radiation, high and low temperatures, resistance to breakage and mechanical damage.

PVC sills beautifully imitate wooden, stone and other textured surfaces, so they are perfectly suited to any interior, preserving the immutability of color and beautiful appearance throughout the entire operation.

Advantages: do not require special care, are durable, waterproof, heat-resistant, hard-wearing, lightweight, strong, resistant to scratch, aggressive spots, mechanical damage and chemical action, affordable price.

Disadvantages: although polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is absolutely harmless material and does not pose a danger to humans and the environment, some consider it not as ecological as natural materials (wood, stone). It is important to understand that this is nothing more than superstition, because technology is developing at an incredible pace, and modern high-quality PVC products are not only environmentally friendly, but also surpass those other materials.

PVC window sills of VIKNALAND TM

The design of the window sill consists of working and supporting planes, which are connected by vertical partitions, and the presence of special stiffening ribs provides the window sills extraordinary durability. The surface of the window sills is covered with a special protective layer, which is highly resistant to external influences and is not afraid of moisture.

PVC window sills of VIKNALAND TM do not contain harmful substances for human health and environment, because they consist of environmentally friendly materials, which are 100% processed. There are offered sills of three basic colors: white, golden oak, marble. The width of the window sill can be from 10 to 70 cm, and the length – up to 6 meters.

Tip of the craftsman. When choosing a window sill, keep in mind that access to warm air from the heating battery to the window can not be prevented, as it may cause condensation on the glass during the cold season. Therefore, the window sill should not be too wide. If you still want to order a window sill of considerable width, it is necessary to equip it with ventilation grill to ensure correct heat exchange.

Mosquito net – a special window accessory, the main purpose of which is to protect the room from the intrusion of insects.

Especially in the warm season, when the windows are often opened in the daytime and at night. However, mosquito nets effectively protect the premises not only from intruding insects, but also from poplar fluff, street dust, leaves and other small debris that can fall into windows from the street or upper floors of the house.

All materials, which mosquito nets consist of, are moisture-proof, durable, strong, do not rust and withstand significant temperature effects without loss of operational properties.

The practicality and advantages of mosquito nets can also include their following qualities:

  • transparency effect: mosquito nets do not interfere with the arrival of light, do not shade the room and are practically not visible on the window;
  • easy to install: Convenient mounting makes it easy to install and remove mosquito nets independently;
  • unpretentious in care: the net is rubbed with a damp cloth using an ordinary soap solution;
  • a constructive variety of nets, which allows them to be mounted on windows of almost any shape and size, as well as balconies, terraces, verandas, etc.

Depending on the design, mosquito nets can be of the following types: frame-type, roller-type and door-type.

Frame mosquito nets

Mosquito nets of frame type are the simplest, convenient and in demand. They consist of a frame carcas (most often rectangular) with a pulled fiberglass cloth. The frame mosquito nets are fastened to the outside of the window frame using metal brackets or installed in special pockets.

The installation of mosquito nets on the balcony doors (as well as doors of verandas, summer kitchens, terraces, attic and other premises) is carried out using loops and special latches (magnetic holders). Door mosquito nets are lightweight, comfortable (equipped with handles) and perfectly integrate into the interior of the room. They can easily be removed for washing or storage (it is necessary to remove the axial pins from the hinges), and then put them in place.

Mosquito nets are made of light fiberglass material – fiberglass, which is secured by means of a rubber cord in a frame made of aluminum profiles and plastic corners.
The mosquito nets can be stationary or opening. The latter are equipped with loops and open on the principle of the inner window.
